OOTD: How to be a mermaid…

She sells sea shells on the sea-shore…
When you visit the seaside, dressing like a mermaid is basically a prerequisite. And who doesn’t love the seaside? I love escaping for the day, eating fish and chips and too much ice cream (even when it’s freezing) and watching the tide come in. Fancy a dip?

We headed to Staithes on our adventure, which is a tiny seaside village with lots of steep hills and tiny, cobbled streets. It’s incredibly quiet and you get a lot of hellos from friendly strangers. My beautiful ZARA coat kept me toasty every time it got a little chilly.

You might be able to tell, I can’t resist slipping a bit of the 70’s trend into basically every look at the minute so the bell sleeves on my Wildfox jumper combined with my oversized hat created a subtle enough nod without taking over my whole look. I love how easy it is take add elements of that trend without going overboard or looking too much like you stepped out of your parents wardrobe.

Also we need to talk about those shoes! Secret D’or (a company that stocks lots of independent designers from all over the world – L O V E) sent them over and they are crazy beautiful! The blue contrasting trim and leopard print are a little wacky and just add that extra something special to your look. On another accessory note, there’s a pretty cool story behind my necklace. My lovely OH (/photographer) bought me some soy candles for Christmas from a company called Imperial Candles. The most exciting part is, as you burn the candle, you find a small, foil-wrapped package and inside is a piece of jewellery. What’s inside is completely random and worth between £10 and £2,000. It’s such a great concept and makes an amazing gift (brownie points to my OH).

So what do you think of my look? What’s your favourite trend this season? Would you try an Imperial Candle? Let me know in the comments section!
