It’s taken me quite some time to get over the fact that I can’t just live in Dreams Punta Cana forever. I spent ten nights there last year and never wanted to leave. I’d just gotten my go pro which I was so excited to use, more so than my camera. I really wish I’d snapped more photos to show you just how dreamy this place is – you can check out my vlog to see more. But it’s finally time to share my adventure with you… Don’t forget the suncream!
After arriving on a rather grey day in London, we headed over to Gatwick for a quick stop over in the Hampton by Hilton before flying out to Punta Cana the next day. Fancy a nosey at the suite?
We started off in one of the preferred club deluxe rooms before being upgraded to the preferred club honeymoon suite (find the full room details here). The deluxe room was perfectly suitable, spacious and really clean but the honeymoon suite was just incredible! With a hot tub, two tvs, lounge area, wet room and just so many lovely touches, I wanted to move in permanently. In both rooms, the staff that popped in to restock the mini fridge or turn down the bed were just so friendly and smiley. They also left fresh flowers and decorations every time they popped in.
The resort is huge and there’s a lot of wildlife, like flamingos and peacocks just wondering around the resort (perfectly happy to be hand-fed if you’re brave enough). The freeform pool is enormous and having a swim up bar is a total bonus. I spent plenty time floating by with a long island in my hand. The staff are always on hand and offer wait service by the pool and beach – another little luxury. We also had free scuba lessons in the pool before heading out to sea. There’s so many little extra details, like the woman who carves fruit for you. Super fresh mangos taste even better when the look likes flowers.
Hot tub time? We were given so many bottles of fizz, we didn’t know what to do with it… other than drink it in the hot tub and pretend to smoke cigars, like cool kids (definitely not for me but fun to pose like a member of the mafia).
Being part of the ‘preferred club’ really made a difference. If you’re considering it, I’d say go for it every time! The list of preferred club privileges seems endless: private check in, free wifi (essential), oceana breakfast (the eggs benedict combined with that view… just left me speechless), a private bar with hors d’oeuvres throughout the day and just so much more.
I’m a totally foodie so having our own personal chef to make unlimited amounts of sushi was definitely a winner for me. Himitsu (the pan-Asian restaurant) serves up Chinese and Japanese hot dishes too, with the chefs cooking ‘live’ in front of you, their audience. Their knife work is crazy fast, with blades spinning in the air and it’s incredible to watch.
One of my favourite parts was having dinner in the wine cellar with our sommelier, Hamlet. We had a four course dinner with a bottle of Gavi and an Italian Prosecco (yummm). Starting with a surprise dish to share that turned out to be razor clams, we quickly polished it of before moving onto more heavenly seafood (white wine deserves good seafood). I had an incredible take on coquilles st jacques which has me watering at the mouth just thinking about it. Lobster for main (obviously) and then onto dessert. I went for apple strudle and Jamie choose a chocolate pecan brownie, which I rather kindly helped him finish. The whole evening was incredibly intimate and romantic, with fairy lights twinkling and soft music playing, surrounded by hundreds of bottles of vintage wine (hello heaven). Dinner in the wine cellar isn’t fully included in the all inclusive price which means you have to spend $80+ on wine but it’s totally worth it and was my favourite evening of the holiday.
The last night was our two year annivairsary so we decided to celebrate with dinner on the beach (we did A LOT of eating). We were lead over to a canopy on the sands and waited for dinner to arrive. There was a super moon that evening which was stunning and made the evening even more perfect. The menu was from the dreams package which included a smoked salmon starter, filet mignon and lobster main and an assiette of desserts (I’d already started on that by the time i snapped a photo). My dress is from Jones and Jones (similar here).
I did spend my time recording rather than taking photos so there’s a lot more in my vlog which you can see here (think spa, pool and even more food!). There are so many fantastic restaurants it’s hard to choose each night – look out for adults only bordeaux, it’s a personal favourite. I hate hotels where you have to make reservations at the restaurants days in advance but at Dreams, you can just walk right up and be seated. All in all, the holiday was a total dream. Flying home was heartbreaking but I’d already decided I would be returning the second I stepped on the plane.
A huge thank you to the amazing Dreams Punta Cana team (Gary especially) and the team at the Holiday Place who we booked with. Now I’m looking forward to our next adventure. Don’t forget to check out my holiday vlog HERE.
Have you been to the Caribbean before? Have you stayed at a Dreams resort? Where is your dream holiday? I’d love to know, just leave me a message in the comments below!
A faux-ginger, gin drinking, digital marketing gal with a thing for food styling. That was basically my old Tinder bio... Living in Leeds, I'm forever heading out for dinner, buying too many clothes, spending 50% of my money on ubers and, as of now, putting my stamp on my new apartment!
