OOTD: Plus size poolside and the fat/skinny debate

Every year you can count on at least a handful of brands to make the ‘bikini body’ slip up. All it takes is the first glimpse of sunshine and twitter is fired up in a vicious circle of fat and skinny shaming. This year we had the #skinnybirdwatching from Taking Shape UK (who went with the ‘sorry you got offended’ apology… eurgh) and the big one from Protein World that ended in the ad being removed and the companies chief exec likening feminists to terrorist… wonderful stuff. We’re all still waiting for brands to get the message that women are REAL women no matter what size and that a swimsuit and yourself is all you need to be beach ready (minus the swimsuit if you’re on a nudist beach, cheeky). So here is my latest OOTD and guess what? I’m beach body ready!

I was a size 6 when I came to University and I’m graduating a size 14, but the thing is, I’ve never been more body confident. Loving your body isn’t about your size, it’s about the way you see yourself. Yes I still have wobbly days when I try something on and it doesn’t fit but don’t we all? When I had a flat tummy and skinny arms and no curves I would look in the mirror and STILL think I was fat. Now I see a big smile and curves and okay there are bits that could be a little smaller or smoother or curvier but that’s fine. Everyone is different, everyone is beautiful, and no one should feel embarrassed or anything less than fabulous in a swim suit.

I’m currently obsessed with crochet, as you can probably tell from my latest posts, and when I spotted this gorgeous piece on LVNDR I got so excited. It’s one size only and I was a little wary it wouldn’t suit but I was determined to give it a try. Luckily I fell in love! The tie straps mean it’s adjustable and it’s perfect to throw in your beach bag – such a holiday essential! Like everything for LVNDR, the price is so much lower than anywhere else I’ve seen.

I’m a huge fan of high-waisted bottoms. They give me more confidence than low-rise bottoms and are perfect for smoothing over any wobbly bits. You’ll probably spot the sandals on my blog quite a bit as I’m obsessed and have them in black and white (thank you Primark). I wore them for pretty much the whole holiday and they were fab! Oh and that bag? You must all know by now how much I adore novelty clutch bags and this ice cream version from New Look is no different (they are on point this season)! I’ve had SO many people complimenting it, which makes it worth the rather reasonable price tag, especially now it’s been reduced to just £9.50!

For the first time EVER I wasn’t nervous about sharing my bikini photos, so I hope you all enjoyed this post. Do you feel confident in swim wear? Are you a bikini or a full costume fan? I’d love to chat about it in the comments below!

Love Lucinda xx
